Ladies Robes - Lounging In Style by Hillary Furlow

It used to be that you could watch just about any television show and see people wearing robes during breakfast, morning, evening and bedtime scenes. You also often saw any bathroom scenes with a robe somewhere in the picture. These days are gone and robes have become something of a rarity both on screen and in life.

Robes give the impression of relaxation, of time and a lifestyle that was less hurried than the everyday hectic schedules of modern life. Robes have been negated to something that belongs in rural rather than urban areas. While it may be true that robes are something that is no longer a mainstream item for many people, there are a number of benefits to having one.

The first thing to note is that there are a number of different types of robes. Terry robes are bath robes designed to work in addition to or in place of a towel. They are usually made of similar materials. There are robes that are luxury robes made of finer materials and there are robes that are designed primarily to provide modest covering. However, there are also robes especially ladies robes that are designed strictly for lounging.

These are called lounging robes and unlike bath robes which are often tied closed with a belt these tend to take the shape of a shapeless dress. It either has buttons, snaps or a zipper in the front and can be made of light weight summer fabrics or heavier fabrics for winter. They may or may not have embellishments such as embroidery or lace and are designed to provide a comfortable outfit to wear primarily around the house.

These types of robes can be either long or short depending on the style and materials used. Winter robes tend to be longer with long sleeves and heavier fabrics while summer styles tend to be made of light weight fabric and are usually shorter such as knee length with short sleeves. These types of robes because of their comfort and variety of uses are sometimes called house coats or house dresses. They come in solid colors but also come in a variety of patterns especially summer styles. Winter styles tend to maintain primarily solid colors unless made of flannel. Then styles can often be seen that are similar to summer patterns.

Ladies robes come in a variety of types. Lounging robes are just one type and are designed to provide a comfortable outfit that can be easily thrown on. Unlike a bath robe, it is usually not awkward to answer the door wearing one of these robes as it might if one was wearing a bath robe lending a greater comfort to the wearer.
